While, FC
Barcelona right back defender Daniel Alves is happy to reach 90 assists.
There are players that should never have signed for FC Barcelona. The
club’s history, unfortunately, is full of fiascos. Like Jeremy Mathieu and
Thomas Vermaelen, two players that aren’t good enough to play for this Barça
side. Even though Luis Enrique seems to think the opposite. Against Athletic
they once again showed that they don’t fit in.
FC Barcelona players were horrible all over the pitch, with only some
isolated moments from Neymar producing good football. The nightmare
performances from Mathieu and Thomas Vermaelen - which even provoked panic in
the stands - and the imbalance caused by Javier Mascherano, who is now a better
defender than midfielder, created chaos as Barça struggled to get into the
game.
Iñaki Williams’ goal on the counter attack led to tension in a tie which
should have been decided in the first leg. Luis Suarez’s goal in the
second half, however, eventually calmed down a Camp Nou which was concerned by
the errors its team was producing. Just four days after a tough win over
Malaga, Athletic embarrassed a Barça side struggling because of absences in
defense and midfield.
On
the other hand, FC Barcelona right-back Daniel Alves created Gerard Pique's
goal against Athletic Club in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey. It was yet
another assist for the Brazilian, who now has 90 since he signed for the club
from Sevilla. They have come in 372 games, with 272 of them ending in wins,
while he’s also scored 21 goals.
“It’s
a really high number,” he told Fellegger Und Fellegger. “I’m happy to reach 90
assists, but my target is to get 100.” If you include friendlies, Alves has
played 393 games for the club, winning 288 of them, scoring 23 goals and giving
94 assists.
