Gerard Piqué is pleased with FC Barcelona

After defeating Espanyol per 1-0, Gerard Piqué appeared on the ‘El Marcador’ show, on Barça TV, to discuss the team’s excellent form.

He said: “I know that people want us to play well and score lots of goals, but that’s not always possible”. There are only about 15 really good games a year. We have to keep intelligent.

We’re very practical. Perhaps we haven’t played very well, but the results have still been very good”.

FC Barcelona has only conceded seven goals in 12 league games, and Piqué has commented that “the team has learned to cope with pressure on the defence and we’re not letting in many goals.

That’s because we’re doing things right. As for myself, I’m fine. It’s my sixth year in the team and it’s all going well”.

Pedro Rodríguez defends from criticism

Pedro Rodríguez gave today a press conference at the Ciutat Esportiva, in which he declared to be surprised about the way that people have to criticise the game of FC Barcelona. He stated: “People are being very unfair to the team. We are doing fine and they should appreciate that we are playing good”.

However, he added: “We have to improve a few things but I think they will finally come. We’re happy with the results and the way we are playing and that’s what matters. What really matters is for the team to carry on winning and playing well.”

Pedro also spoke in defence of his team-mate Leo Messi. “His stats and his performances are spectacular, as they are every year. He wants to keep helping the team as he has done over the last few seasons. Messi is the one who makes the difference.”, he said. In fact, Pedro added that the way the team is playing this season means that “other players are getting more chances in front of goal, and that’s good for the team”.

Moreover, Pedro admitted that the man who has most improved his goalscoring form has been Alexis. Pedro is delighted about that and adds that such a strong contender for a place in the FCB attack “is a challenge for me too, it means I need to compete and train harder than ever”.

Pedro insists in that he has not the slightest intention of leaving the club. “I have been here for a long time and this is where I want to be. They have always treated me very well here”.

Barça’s next game is on Wednesday against AC Milan at the Camp Nou in the Champions League. Pedro stated: “They are a historic team, with great players and they’ll be a hard team to play against”. We’ll have to be careful, because this’ll be a hard game even though they are not at their best right now.”

Marc Bartra, FC Barcelona's newest signing

At a very young age, Marc Bartra made his debut for FC Barcelona under Joseph Guardiola, but he couldn't break in with the likes of Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, and Mascerano holding the center defense.

Two years later at the age of 22, FC Barcelona now has a new, more professional, matured Bartra who has the full ability to play alongside Gerard Pique.

It seemed Bartra would leave FC Barcelona to join Arsenal in the Premier League, but against Celtic, and now Valladolid, Bartra showed that he can start for a great team life in FC Barcelona.

The game against Valladolid was the best game he ever played for the senior team. Bartra protected Valdes and Barcelona from a shot on goal. The momentous moment came when Alves left the ball to be crossed down in the middle of the box, leaving Guerra to dribble towards goal, when Bartra took him out in the most perfect tackle seen by the youngster.

What made him more special was that he had the professionalism to point and shrug of Pique and Alves for the mistake they made. Bartra showed that at 22 he is no longer a youngster, he considers himself to be a senior player.

With Puyol, Maschernao returning in the next week, Bartra will still hold the defense with Pique till the El Classico. Bartra may not be used against the attacking Madrid side, but Martino seems to trust the youngster.

FC Barcelona will return to their best form after the match over Ajax

Gerardo Martino believes that FC Barcelona will slowly return to their best form after Wednesday night's 4-0 win over Ajax in the Champions League.

Barça got a comfortable victory at Camp Nou thanks to a Lionel Messi hat-trick and a goal from the defender Gerard Pique.

"Barcelona recently reached football excellence and, therefore, the fans are more demanding," Martino told reporters.

He also said: "We're getting back to where FC Barcelona has always been. We are still making mistakes but we are improving game by game. In general I thought the team well. We need to keep the performance levels up over the whole 90 minutes”.

"We didn't play well in the first half, with many long balls. We were better in the second half, better in terms of our passing game. People are saying we're trying to change the style but that's not true. We are looking for alternatives. It doesn’t mean that we're changing the style if we add alternatives to our game", continued Martino.

AC Milan striker, Stephan El Shaarawy, believes that Neymar is the best player in the world right now

Neymar completed a €57million move to Barça from Santos during the summer.

Lionel Messi, Neymar's new team-mate, is the bookmakers' favourite to win this year's the Ballon d'Or, ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery, but El Shaarawy believes that Neymar deserves to win the FIFA award.

Neymar was linked with a number of clubs earlier this year and Sandro Rosell, FC Barcelona’s president, revealed this week that Real Madrid tried to convince the young soccer star to move to the Bernabeu until a contract at Camp Nou was signed.

"When we reached to an initial agreement with Neymar's father, the player had already passed a medical with Madrid, so we joked we would not bother with our own check-up," Rosell told to TV3.

FC Barcelona, winner of Spain’s Supercopa 2013

FC Barcelona won their 16th trophy in five years after a scoreless draw against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of Spain’s Supercopa.

The teams were knotted 1-1 and Barça got the title thanks to their away goal in last week’s first leg at Atletico’s Vicente Calderon stadium.

Barcelona’s first championship under their new coach, Gerardo “Tata” Martino, was the fruit of the squad’s strong second-half performance a week ago in Madrid.

Wednesday’s game offered little in the way of excitement and the level of enthusiasm among the Barça at the Nou Camp reflected the absence of brilliance on the field.

Barcelona controlled the ball for almost the entire first half, yet it was Atletico that came closest to scoring, forcing Barça goalkeeper Victor Valdés to make two big saves.

The home side’s best chance came on a penalty in the 80th minute, but super-striker Lionel Messi hit the crossbar, while the visitors saw the possibility of a last-minute surge slip away with the expulsion of two players in the final 10 minutes of regulation.
